This international transportation road £¬leading to Asia minor through India,Middle Asia and Western Asia from Yunnan. Through this road, there had been different levels of cultural communication between the civilization of ancient Shu and ancient Indian civilization,Mesopotamia civilization,Anatolia civilization, ancient Egyptian civilization, ancient Greek civilization. The civilization of ancient Shu in the southwest of China and Yunnan civilization are important parts of Chinese civilization and have great consequence in the origin of Chinese civilization. To study South Silk Road and the culture communication through this road, can prove that Chinese civilization is an open civilization from one aspect. There had been wide economic and cultural communication between the southwest of China and Southeast Asia and South Asia, people communicated a lot at early ages. To study these issues supports the academic research and improves the trade, cultural communication and the development of tourism on the borders in the southwest of China.
Scholars from Sichuan and Yunnan claimed that they would develop research cooperation to promote the study of South Silk Road.

After many years study, the study of South Silk Road has been a study crossing many areas and cooperated with many subjects, it's the efforts of the hard work of scholars of three generations. Now people are busy with the work of declaring Silk Road as the world cultural heritage while the work of ly. declaring South Silk Road is far behind. Though there are many reasons, as scholars studying this program for a long time,we should realize this clearly:we have responsibility and even obligation to promote the declaring work from the academic perspective.

Symposium on the Longmen mountain and the civilization of the ancient Shu
On December 8th and 9th,2007, Symposium on the Longmen mountain and civilizatin of ancient Shu was held in shifang city, Sichuan province, which was held by Shifang City government and the Center for Bashu Cultural studies of Sichuan Normal University(the Key Research Base of Humanities and Social Science of Ministry of Education). Scholars had a passionate discussion on the theme of civilization in Longmen mountain and the ancient Shu from eight perspectives on history, archaeology, ethnology, mine and metal technology. It is generally regarded that Longmen mountain plays an important role in the origin, development and cross-culture communication of ancient Shu civilization, for Longmen mountain leads to Gansu and Qinghai plateau in the northwest and connects Chengdu plain in the southeast. It can also be claimed that there would be no such gorgeous ancient Shu culture without Longmen mountain which has been a key road of transportation. The ancient culture around Longmen mountain is an important part of the origin of Bashu culture. The cultures of Sanxingdui and Jinsha originate in the east of Longmen mountain and their origination didn't happen by chance but had a process of development. The ancient civilization in Chengdu plain contains the ancient culture in Longmen mountain which is no doubt one of the key roads of ancient culture transmission. The sites of Shangzhou unearthed in Shifang belong to the relic of late culture of Sanxingdui, which indicates that the culture in the front areas of Longmen developed with Sanxingdui ancient Shu culture. Furthermore, the boat-shaped coffins in Shifang are the relic of civilization of ancient Shu. So Longmen mountain was always a part of civilization of ancient Shu from the period of Shangzhou and the period of war states. On the openning ceremony, there was a ceremony of sign awarding to Shifang research institute which is a branch of Research Center of Bashu culture of Sichuan Normal University.
